Two old guys

Late one afternoon, as we walked to Jongepier, a bar and restaurant with spectacular views of the river junction and its traffic, a German holiday boat, the Iris, was docking. These smaller holiday boats, with their flower pots and bikes on deck, come and go daily. This old bloke was sitting on a bench in the late afternoon sun, taking in the view. He watched the Iris tie up, then ambled off. And I ambled off to the bar and family.

Some might say 'rats with wings', but the good folk of Dordrecht have a soft spot for pigeons. It is common to see people feeding them in squares, parks and along the harbours. Pigeons flock around the Jongepier, Grote Kerk and Statenplein.  I was out walking alone, taking in the boats and buildings, when this old guy wandered down, unwrapped a packet of scraps and stepped back to watch them feed. I had the impression that it was a regular part of his day - and theirs.
